Gala Concert for Education in Haiti.
On Sunday June 2, 2024, Sisters Karin Dufault, Diane Sarrasin, Josie Lerios, Hélène Mamert Nga Amogo, Maria Nagui and Francine Blanc, took part in the gala evening organized by Father Asnigue Merlet. The purpose of the concert was to raise funds for the children of the Notre-Dame-de-Fatima bicentenary school in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The concert took place at the Centre de Congrès Palace in Laval, Quebec. The celebration got underway to the strains of the national anthem. Guest artists were Father Patrick François, Tamara Suffren, Jean Jean Roosevelt, the Harmonie des Anges Choir and Myriam Antoine connecting the attendance with the objective of the event: to support a humanitarian cause in Haiti. Father Merlet then followed with a few words of introduction and gratitude. Using a documentary video as visual aid, he recalled the origins of the school and the commitment and support of the Sisters of Providence. As a token of his appreciation, he presented them with a painting of Our Lady of Fatima, and a plaque of honor and merit for guiding and supporting the children of Notre Dame de Fatima School. Sister Hélène Mamert and Sister Diane stepped forward to receive both gifts.
The initiative of bringing together Haitians living outside their country represents a meaningful contribution to Haiti’s
education and future. It was an extraordinary occasion for people from different backgrounds to join for a common cause: to contribute to the development of those most in need. We were treated to different dishes throughout the evening. Father Asnigue and the stage artists invited everyone to dance, sing along and thus connect with the Lord, with the Earth and with the whole Haitian people through the intercession of the Virgin Mary. The messages carried by the songs and dances made us feel the vibrations and energy of Haitian traditions that express a deep desire and thirst for change. We felt that the joy of sharing the present moment was an opportunity to sympathize with the suffering of the people. For us, Sisters of Providence, it was an opportunity to fully live our Charism in creative solidarity with those in need.
Providence of God, we thank you for all!
Francine Blanc and Hélène Mamert
