September 23, Feast of Mother Gamelin

September 23, at 4:00 p.m., at her tomb, across from the Chapel of the Mother House, we commemorated the entrance into heaven of Mother Gamelin. At 4:15pm, the bells of the Asile de la Providence signaled the time of her going to Heaven in 1851.     

With prayers, the reading of a Psalm, the Gospel, and inspiring songs beautifully intoned, the Sisters of Providence, sisters of other congregations and lay colleagues celebrated Emilie’s Feast, recalling her virtues and her profound love of Providence. The celebration concluded with “O Providence Most Gentle”, the Congregation’s hymn, which was sung in French, English and Spanish.

It was a moment of contemplation and prayer, but also of sharing and dialogue for all those present.
