Journey to Oneness of our Providence Family – October 21 and 22, 2024

After the solemn Mass celebrated on October 20 at the Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral in Montreal, marking a step forward in the canonization of our foundress Emilie Gamelin, a two-day event was held at the Mother House of the Sisters of Providence. For this occasion, members of the Congregation came together with collaborators and Providence Associates from around the world to experience a most cherished program of activities.

Following the spirit of the solemn Mass, both days started with the screening of the Virtual Steps of Emilie Gamelin and a visit to the Museum of the Sisters of Providence at the Providence International Centre.

On Monday, October 21, Sister Alba Letelier, s.p., Congregational Leader, welcomed those present in the Providence Hall, and among them, Sisters from the Providence Pavilion. She also addressed the Sisters, Providence Associates and collaborators who joined the event via Zoom from those countries in which the Providence Family is well represented.

Both days started with a prayer, followed by a piece of theatre written and directed by Johnny Cortes, which revolved around the history of the Congregation, highlighting the life of Mother Émilie Tavernier-Gamelin, Mother Bernarda Morin, and Mother Joseph of the Sacred Heart. The play was divided into several acts and invited us to reflect on our roots. After each act, questions were asked, triggering participants to reflect and share with others, a process that was enriched by their diversity of perspectives.

On Tuesday, October 22, the program was closed by a ritual. After two days of deep reflection, inspired by Providence, we were invited to know better the members of the Providence Family, acknowledging our past, honoring our present and welcoming our future with hope.

Providence of God, we thank you for all!
